ABSTRACT
Objective: During the last years, Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) as a biomarker of inflammation has spread out its clinical application. Recent publications have confirmed strong and positive predictive value for poor prognosis in diabetes cardiovascular disease, development hypertension. However, evidence is scarce regarding average NLR distribution general population. Our aim was describe large-scale population classified by age gender. Design method: We analyzed data from consecutive non-hospitalized subjects over 16 years-old. Blood samples were drawn part medical check-ups 22 centers during 3 months 2015, one central lab hematology analyzers (LH 750, Beckman Coulter). Internal quality controls third opinion (Bio Rad) used subsequent monthly verification procedures analytical bias performed. calculated dividing number neutrophils lymphocytes. Then, evaluated gender decades life. Results: included 71,873 (ranged 103 66,1% female). Males had median between 1.50 (16 19years group) 2.52 (>90 years group), with gradual constant increase both ends. Women 1.54 19 2.38 first peak 30 49 group (p < 0.001 compared men at same age), then progressive similar men. Conclusions: To extent our knowledge this time that explored age. A direct association observed across lifespan genders. hypothesized an immuno-inflammatory component accompanying arterial aging atherosclerosis may be responsible physiopathology. The fertile stage women deserves further research.
