ABSTRACT
Objective: Treatment-related reductions in microalbuminuria (MAU) are associated with a reduced incidence of cardiovascular events and reduction progression to end-stage renal disease hypertensive patients, but if MAU correlates regression left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is still insufficiently studied. Our goal was assess changes the level its relationship LVH during antihypertensive treatment. Design method: 443 patients were treated losartan 50–100 mg plus hydrochlorothiazide 12.5–25 (219 patients) or amlodipine 5–10 o.i.d. (224 follow-up period 12 months. Albumin-creatinine ratio measured first morning void urine prior treatment 4 weeks after After losartan-based combination therapy divided according albumin-creatinine on 2 groups: <50% from baseline (1st group) >50% (2nd group). Results: Reduction 1st group 28% (from 11.8 ± 7.3 8.4 3.8 mg/mmol) (p > 0.05) 2nd 71% 10.9 4.2 3.2 1.6 mg/mmol, p < 0.05). In office systolic blood pressure (BP) decreased 166 4/91 3 133 3/79 mmHg 0.01) 163 5/93 131 4/80 1 0.05), respectively. Decrease LVMI significantly higher year as compared (-19.4 4.1% vs -6.5 3.2%, respectively 0.01). multiple model, significant between decrease found, independent diastolic BP changes, age sex Conclusions: There strong patients. predicts further
