ABSTRACT
There is a paucity of research into the processes surrounding transition from residency to position attending physician. This report retrospectively investigates question: Are physicians adequately prepared and trained perform tasks duties their new position? study aimed at formulating conceptual framework that captures applicable beyond discipline- or location-specific boundaries.Individual semistructured interviews were conducted analyzed using qualitative, grounded theory approach. Between January May 2009, 14 interviewed who had commenced an post in internal medicine obstetrics-gynecology between six months two years earlier, within Netherlands. Interviews focused on attendings' perceptions transition, socialization organization, preparation they received during training. The interview transcripts openly coded, through constant comparison, themes emerged. team discussed results until full agreement was reached.A emerged data, consisting three interacting longitudinal process. describes how novel disruptive elements (first theme) due resident physician are perceived acted (second theme), this directs personal development (third theme).The finds support psychology notions organizational literature. It provides insight can inform measures smooth intense transition.
