ABSTRACT
Open fractures are one of the injuries with highest rate infection that orthopaedic trauma surgeons treat. The main purpose this survey was to determine current practice and variation among Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) members make treatment recommendations based on previously published resources.Survey.Web-based survey.Three hundred seventy-nine surgeons.A 15-item questionnaire-based study titled "OTA Fracture Survey" constructed. delivered all OTA membership categories. Different components data charts were used analyze numerous aspects open fracture management, focusing parameters initial definitive treatment.Eighty-six percent participants responded a period time less than 1 hour is optimal antibiotic administration after identification fracture. Despite concerns nephrotoxicity, 24.0%-76.3% respondents reported use aminoglycosides in management fractures. A little over half continue antibiotics until next debridement wounds not definitively closed stabilization.Rapid important. Aminoglycoside still prevalent despite evidence questioning efficacy toxicity concerns. Time controversial members. Antibiotic commonly continued >48 hours raised by Surgical Infection Society Eastern Surgery Trauma.
