ABSTRACT
To evaluate the effect of calcar screw use in proximal humeral fractures with unstable medial support treated locked plates.Standard osteotomies were performed 36 cadaveric humeri to create a surgical neck fracture model. For static testing, 12 pairs divided into 4 groups: normal alignment and varus deformity groups without 5-mm deficiencies. Calcar function was measured each group by axial, shear, torsion stiffness tests. Another 6 deficiencies subjected cyclic loading tests model application.Calcar screws improved rotational stability (P = 0.007) 0.002) groups. axial 0.004) shear 0.017) deficiency. In specimens intact cortex, provided no advantage 0.535) or 0.537) stiffness. did not provide sufficient 0.782) 0.772) avoid reduction loss malreduction. In alignment, can additional even when deficiency exists. The showed biomechanical superiority.
