ABSTRACT
Postoperative pain control in pediatric patients has become a priority for all institutions. There is paucity of literature on after orthopedic procedures the population. The purpose this study to compare efficacy acetaminophen with narcotic analgesics, specifically, acetaminophen/codeine and morphine, management closed reduction percutaneous pinning displaced supracondylar humerus fractures children.We retrospectively evaluated 217 who received type II or III at our institution from 2003 2009. Hospital charts were reviewed obtain demographic data. Patients divided into non-narcotic groups. Oucher FLACC scales used quantify effectiveness that was delivered.A total 174 treated medications 43 narcotics. average age these 5.45 years. mean postoperative score group 1.9, whereas 2.2. This difference not statistically significant. To account severity fracture type, we created an age-matched cohort only fractures. 6.22 subgroup 2.1 compared 2.4 subgroup. Severe nausea vomiting attributed either class medication observed. In addition, no developed compartment syndrome.Acetaminophen as effective analgesics providing surgery children historically associated fewer side effects. It recommendation use alone patients.III.
