A large retrospective multicenter study of vaginal melanomas

ABSTRACT
The outcome of patients presenting with vaginal melanoma has been assessed in a large multicentric retrospective study. databases 12 French institutions were searched for primary melanomas managed between 1990 and 2007. Among the 54 recorded, 46 curative intent included clinical characteristics, treatments, detection c-KIT protein expression have studied. median age was 63.5 years (42–88). Twenty-eight classified as International Federation Gynecology Obstetrics (FIGO) stage I, five II, six III, one IVA. overexpressed 80% patients. Forty-two underwent surgical resection tumor, nine received local adjuvant treatment, 10 systemic therapy. relapse-free survival 10.9 months. c-KIT-negative status (P=0.01) I (P=0.02) associated locoregional recurrence. rate metastasis increased advanced FIGO stages (P<0.01). overall (OS) 28.4 finding lymph node adversely affected OS Conservative surgery radiotherapy decrease metastasis-free (P<0.01) compared alone, this group (P=0.02).
