ABSTRACT
More than 80% of patients with metastatic melanoma initially show only one distant organ site involvement, most commonly the lungs. Several studies on pulmonary diseases have determined prognostic factors for survival; however, these included a variety primary tumor types and failed to discriminate melanoma-specific factors. Surgical therapy has been shown in several be associated 5-year survival rate as high 39%. We retrospectively analyzed 48 previously treated who developed metastases were admitted between 1990 2006. The overall was estimated using Kaplan–Meier analysis. Log-rank Breslow's tests used compare differences each variable. Multivariate analyses determine independent performed Cox proportional hazard model, identified by univariate analyses. median all 32 months, an 36%. type resection number malignant nodules resected survival. observed significant benefit from metastasectomy subset melanoma.
