Perioperative pregabalin for acute and chronic pain after abdominal hysterectomy or myomectomy

ABSTRACT
The antiepileptics gabapentin and pregabalin are used as adjuvants to control postoperative pain.The aim of the present study was investigate effect perioperative administration on acute chronic pain analgesic requirements.Department Anaesthesiology, Aretaieio University Hospital, Athens, Greece.Eighty patients scheduled for abdominal hysterectomy or myomectomy were randomly assigned group.The group received 150 mg 8-hourly, starting afternoon before surgery continued until fifth day. similarly treated, but placebo capsules instead.Postoperative intravenous morphine Lonalgal (30 codeine with 500 paracetamol) tablet consumption, visual analogue scores at rest coughing, sedation, anxiety, dizziness, ataxia, blurred vision diplopia recorded. One 3 months postoperatively interviewed presence needs due surgery.The pregabalin-treated consumed less during first 48 h (P = 0.0001). However, consumption tablets coughing did not differ between groups. No difference found in sedation anxiety who pregabalin. Patients had lower incidences dizziness (29 versus 58%, P 0.015), ataxia (0 18%, 0.011), (6 26%, 0.028) 16%, 0.023). Presence pain, intake decreased absent sensation around wound groups 1 postoperatively.Pregabalin doses given requirements postoperatively, neither altered beyond nor any acute, late pain.
