ABSTRACT
CD4 T lymphocytes expressing CD8dim (DP: CD8dim) or NKG2D represent cytotoxic effector populations, which have been involved in viral infections and chronic diseases. The frequency of DP cells was analyzed by flow cytometry 300 consecutive HIV-infected patients 50 healthy controls. expression memory/effector markers were also studied, addition to virologic genetic factors T-cell expansion. showed a significantly higher than controls, mainly with advanced disease. Expansion related appearance predicted CD28null levels. Cells are closely populations similar pattern surface markers, perforin expression, responses activation. We found that these subsets seem share an ontogenic relationship TcR oligoclonality. In this way, cytomegalovirus infection certain HLA alleles, such as DR7, conditioned the expansion cells. Their common origin oligoclonality, possibly due repeated encounters same antigen, could result limitation repertoire responder worse prognosis HIV infection.
