ABSTRACT
To evaluate the efficacy of a prophylactic regimen daily topical 0.5% moxifloxacin and 5% povidone-iodine (PI) in patients with Boston type I keratoprosthesis (KPro) to assess applicability novel molecular diagnostic technique analyze ocular surface microbiota these patients.Ten had their inferior conjunctival fornix sampled for standard culture methods before addition PI were considered control group (group 1). The KPro-donor cornea interface 10 treated mentioned analyzed by using polymerase chain reaction/electrospray ionization mass spectrometry assay 2).Samples from positive coagulase-negative staphylococcus 3 Aerobasidium pullulans 1 patient 1. scrapings 2 patient, respectively, 2. No bacteria fungi growth detected any approach. None culture-positive results developed keratitis or endophthalmitis during study.Topical associated is an effective KPro. approach serial reaction was comparable microbiologic techniques as surveillance tool patients.
