ABSTRACT
Purpose To investigate the dependence upon intraocular pressure (IOP) of progression visual field defects in eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), which mean IOP was maintained at ≤21 mm Hg. Methods This study involved 100 POAG, were followed up for ≥5 years. The levels Hg during follow-up period. relationship between and defects, scored using Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study criteria, investigated retrospectively. Results Compared baseline scores, defect scores had significantly worsened by end period (P<0.0001, Wilcoxon paired signed rank test). change score (2.5±0.5) average ≥16 (n=36) greater (P=0.031, Mann-Whitney U test) than (1.3±0.3) <16 (n=64). Moreover, ≥18 made a major contribution to aggravation POAG. Conclusions Eyes POAG underwent IOP-dependent their defects. Our results suggest that further lowering would be beneficial such cases.
