ABSTRACT
Early diagnosis of congenital toxoplasma infection is difficult to establish using serological methods. We explored specific T cell immunity Toxoplasma gondii antigens identify more accurate diagnostic tests for an early in newborns at risk toxoplasmosis.T lymphocyte proliferation, interferon (IFN)-gamma production and activation expression were evaluated 23 infected 65 uninfected neonates different times, the first year life. The immunologic accurately discriminated when tested <or=90 >90 days age, respectively significantly lower than infants: antigen CD25, P < 0.001 0.00001; histocompatibility leukocyte (HLA)-DR, 0.01 0.0001 IFN-gamma production, 0.00001. Evaluation response allowed identification 3 months age or younger, 2 neonates, who had negative serologic tests. Moreover activity increased with even undergoing therapy, suggesting that medical treatment does not affect response.Evaluation important toxoplasmosis.
