ABSTRACT
Traditional upper blepharoplasty is a subtractive form of surgery that involves the excision variable amounts skin, muscle, and fat from eyelid. The goal to improve field vision and/or appearance. While surgical debulking eyelid may appearance early on, volume loss inherent this process (especially excision) can contribute hollowed with an associated deep sunken superior sulcus. This skeletonized look be mitigated by repositioning prominent nasal pad, if present, central eyelid. The charts patients who underwent pad (as described in manuscript) arcus marginalis orbital rim during were reviewed. Patients history previous or trauma had concurrent ptosis other malpositions excluded study. Also did not manifest pads at surgery. Postoperative interval follow up was consistent until 6 months after more sporadic thereafter, as frequently missed appointments. healing issues, patient complaints, complications, subjective physician satisfaction assessments noted. Final results gauged on each patient's final visit surgery.Seventy-six included Forty-eight (63%) women, 28 (37%) men. procedure uneventful all patients. average age 66 years mean 11 (range 6-22 months). There one case postoperative pseudo-Brown syndrome, which resolved steroid injections. 2 cases presumed mechanical ptosis, series, lasting for weeks, both responded oral steroids. Subjectively, there no new worsening sulcus hollowness observed surgeon last cases.Volume value preservation lower are well-documented accepted among surgeons. affect iatrogenic depletion blepharoplasty, while understood, has gained less attention. Repositioning adds little time surgery, allows useful adjunct surgeon. further studies needed critically assess volumetric changes, technique holds promise preventative measure hollowing
