ABSTRACT
Background Inadequate bowel preparation is important because it can result in missed lesions, cancelled procedures, increased procedural time, and a potential increase complication rates. This prospective study was designed to look at the quality of colon using polyethylene glycol solution evaluate associations between specific patient characteristics inadequate preparation. Methods A total 362 patients who were compliant with instructions enrolled. All colonoscopic examinations performed by an experienced endoscopist graded (excellent poor). Patient demographic medical history information gathered before procedure. Possible predictors colonic analyzed univariate statistics multivariate logistic regression models. Results An reported 28.2% observed colonoscopies. In analysis, age greater than 60 years [odds ratio (OR) 2.8, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04-7.4], diabetes (OR 8.6, CI 6.3-19.4), appendectomy 4.6, 2.0-10.5), colorectal resection 7.5, 3.4-17.6), hysterectomy 3.4, 1.1-10.4) independent Conclusions identified several factors that may predict compliance procedure starting time. help identify risk for whom alternative protocols would be beneficial.
