ABSTRACT
Background and Aim Acute on chronic liver failure (AoCLF) is associated with a high mortality rate. Plasma exchange (PE) may be useful to bridge patients AoCLF transplantation or regenerate their own livers. The aim of this study was assess the effects PE circulating concentrations cytokines in AoCLF. Methods One hundred forty-nine 2 groups (PE plus routine-care, n=62; n=87) were enrolled our study. Fifteen healthy donors used as control group. Cytokine levels such interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-2 (IL-2), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α) detected admission days 7, 14, 21, 30 during hospitalization. Results All cytokine values (IFN-γ, IL-10, IL-4, IL-2, TNF-α) patient higher compared those controls (P<0.001). effective decrease serum concentration cytokines: TNF-α dropped from (3.46±1.23) pg/mL (1.64±0.66) (P<0.01), IL-10 (6.2±2.1) (3.5±1.1) IL-2 (7.5±4.7) (4.0±2.1) IFN-γ (27.5±15.8) (15.5±11.8) IL-4 (86.7±31.3) (44.7±26.3) (P<0.01). Conclusions Cytokines important pathogenesis AoCLF, represent reliable hepatic support device for
