ABSTRACT
According to World Health Organization estimates, sepsis accounts for 60%-80% of lost lives per year in childhood. Measures appropriate resource-scarce and resource-abundant settings alike can reduce deaths. In this regard, the Federation Pediatric Intensive Care Critical Societies Board Directors announces Global Sepsis Initiative, a quality improvement program designed improve care children with sepsis.To announce global initiative; justify some bundles that are included; show preliminary data encourage participation.The Initiative is developed as Web-based education, demonstration, pyramid bundles/checklist tool (http://www.pediatricsepsis.org or http://www.wfpiccs.org). Four health resource categories included. Category A involves nonindustrialized setting mortality rate <5 yrs >30 1,000 children. B <30 C developing industrialized nation. category D, nation determined separate accompanying administrative clinical parameters checklist recommendations provided, requiring greater resources tasks allocation increased from groups respectively.In vanguard phase, 361 (category A, n = 34; B, 12; C, 84; 231) were successfully entered, quality-assurance reports sent 23 participating international centers. Analysis D showed reduction was associated compliance resuscitation (odds ratio, 0.369; 95% confidence interval, 0.188-0.724; p < .0004) intensive unit management 0.277; 0.096-0.80) bundles.The online.
