ABSTRACT
Background: Much of the literature on epidemiology cleft lip with or without palate is more than three decades old. The question arose as to whether there has been any recent change trend in its rate occurrence. Methods: number live births other congenital anomalies was solicited from national and international organizations. Data were collected for 34 states 30 countries years 2002 2006. All data normalized reported per 10,000 births. Descriptive statistics, addition correlation regression, used analyze data. Results: 5-year period demonstrated that overall anomaly increased United States decreased internationally. highest lowest rates Maryland (21.46) West Virginia (2.59), respectively. averaged 7.75. Countries Japan (19.05) South Africa (3.13), Internationally, declined, an average prevalence 7.94. Conclusions: 7.75 7.94 trends diverged over period, stable declined.
