ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to gather data on trauma etiology and mandibular fracture localization in patients who presented at the General Hospital Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From March 2007 December 2008, 95 with were registered a medical form, Bucomaxillofacial Surgery Department Concerning etiology, 21.05% caused by motorcycle accidents, followed interpersonal violence without use weapons (punches, kicks, bumps head, blows elbow, etc) (16.84%) firearm (14.73%). It found that 52.63% had single line. most affected area parasymphysis (26.02%), condyle (22.60%) angle (18.49%). injury area, 24.21% directed symphysis, 22.17% did not remember 18.94% multiple injuries. When result more fractures (11.64%), injuries resulted itself (8.90%). common cause traffic mainly areas condyle. mandible isolated occurred half cases. Motorcycle accidents when symphysis is injuries, higher percentage fractures.
