ABSTRACT
Purpose Changes in the condylar position after bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSO) can cause many complications, such as dysfunction and increased risk of relapse. This study evaluated a simple approach for repositioning BSSO method to rapidly obtain patient’s centric relation (CR) bite without prefabricated equipment. Methods The subjects included 9 patients (5 men 4 women; mean age, 23.7 years) who underwent Department Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Hallym University hospital between December 2009 March 2012. We performed with condylar-repositioning according CR bite. Results Measurements changes via radiographic images (lateral cephalometric radiographs) did not indicate significant differences surgery (P < 0.05). In surveys temporomandibular joint symptoms, scores categories (sound, pain, mouth opening limitation) also show any increases surgery. Conclusions Within standard operating time, condyle was effectively repositioned using described this study. These results new is eliminates need additional device.
