ABSTRACT
Background. Tuberculosis (TB) remains a high burden infectious disease worldwide. Mycobacterium tuberculosiscomplex (MTBC) is the etiological agent of TB. Research Gap. TB majorly linked to development drug resistant strains. Thus, there urgent need for close surveillance MTBC circulating in given region like Western Kenya treatment Aim. To determine proportion species, strains and genetic diversities circulation an HIV/AIDS prevalent regions especially Kenya. The clinical isolates were collected from Moi Teaching Referral Hospital (MTRH) at Eldoret-Kenya during 2013-14. All confirmed by gold standard method (i.e. Lowenstein-Jensen medium culture) before inclusion investigation. Methodology. A 12-loci Interspersed Repetitive Units-Variable Number Tandem Repeats (MIRU-VNTR) genotyping was performed species/strains using www. MIRU-VNTRplus web platform. Allelic diversity calculated Hunters-Gaston Diversity Index (HGDI). Results. species M. tuberculosis, bovis, africanum, pinnipedii, microti, caprae canettiwere identified population. These found Beijing, Latin American Mediterranean, Uganda 1/2, East African Indian, Ilama, West Harlem, URAL, Ghana, Seal, Cameroon Vole etc. Notably, some had unknown (new/unassigned) species. grouped into nine clusters with clustering rate 31.18% allelic index 0.53 observed. Conclusion. present findings suggest that more awareness among healthcare stakeholders on existence foreign Furthermore, MIRU-VNTR may not be suitable high-resolution techniques i.e., Whole Genome Sequencing needs adopted resolve establish evolutionary trends future archived samples. This knowledge will crucial restraining TB, giving insights new development, prevention, control, strategies
