ABSTRACT
Abstract Skeletal muscle mass (SMM) is a relevant indicator of adolescent health influenced by sport participation, body size, and maturation. However, limited data are available from techniques accessible to field professionals. Purpose To provide reference regional total-body SMM fat-free (FFM) derived anthropometry among groups age, sex, participation in healthy Caucasian children adolescents. Materials methods A cross-sectional dataset 1,438 participants aged 8-18 years were analyzed for this study. Regional FFM estimated anthropometric variables. Sport was obtained ad hoc questionnaires maturity offset calculated using predictive equations. General linear model mixed factors used analyze the variance or across confounders. Ln-ln regression analysis applied describe scaling relationship between height. Results Positive interactions found age variables ( P <0.05). Adjusted total significantly increased along school-age periods active (∼2.2 kg gain, <0.05, boys girls; arm, ∼1.3 cm <0.01, boys), allometric values higher than girls <0.01). Discussion The novel contribution includes indicators relevance on accrual post-pubertal boys. Also, confirms that growth rate varies sex phases puberty, which arises plausible sexual phenotype/dysmorphism participation.
