ABSTRACT
Abstract Members of the Aeromonas genus are commonly found in natural aquatic ecosystems. However, they also frequently present non-chlorinated drinking water distribution systems. High densities these bacteria indicate favorable conditions for microbial regrowth, which is considered undesirable. Studies have indicated that presence associated with loose deposits and invertebrates, specifically Asellus aquaticus . Therefore, a potential source nutrients nutrient poor environments chitin, structural shell component invertebrates. In this study, we demonstrate ability two strains, encountered systems, to effectively degrade utilize chitin as sole carbon nitrogen source. We conducted quantitative proteomics study on cell biomass secretome both revealing dedicated diverse spectrum hydrolytic enzymes pathways uptake metabolism chitin. Furthermore, when primary was switched from glucose more than half proteome showed significant changes. Additionally, genomic analysis species systems suggests general variety carbohydrate biopolymers. This indicates relation between utilization by their association invertebrates such A. knowledge provides foundation development effective sanitation strategies.
