ABSTRACT
Abstract Biological invasions are an increasing threat to ecosystems; early identification of invasive species and rigorous monitoring prerequisites minimize environmental damage. Currently, two large hymenopterans Asian origin spreading across Europe: the yellow-legged hornet Vespa velutina nigrithorax Buysson, 1905 giant resin bee Megachile sculpturalis Smith, 1853, populations which have been gradually being discovered Europe since 2004 2008, respectively. Considering current distribution both in Europe, further spread through Central is expected recent years. In July 2024, first record M. was documented Slovakia, followed by more reports from 11 localities. Less than months later, second hymenopteran, V. , also detected. Utilising multiple methods, their nest as well. On-site observations showed that hornets (workers) were active almost days after colony eradication. The finding accompanied intensive campaign using citizen science.
