ABSTRACT
Housekeeping genes of animal genomes cluster in the same chromosomal regions. It has long been suggested that this organization contributes to their steady expression across all tissues organism. Here, we show activity Drosophila housekeeping gene promoters depends on neighbors. By measuring ∼85,000 reporters integrated Kc167 cells, identified best predictors as contacts with and terminators active genes. Surprisingly, chromatin composition at insertion site enhancers were less informative. These results are substantiated by existence genomic “paradoxical” domains, rich euchromatic features enhancers, but where expressed low level, concomitant a deficit interactions terminators. This indicates proper function relies not distance spatial clustering. Overall, our suggest proximity between increases linear architecture genome effect.
