ABSTRACT
Muon-neutrino elastic scattering on electrons is an observable neutrino process whose cross section precisely known. Consequently a measurement of this in accelerator-based $\nu_\mu$ beam can improve the knowledge absolute flux impinging upon detector; typically limited to $\sim$ 10% due uncertainties hadron production and focusing. We have isolated sample 135 $\pm$ 17 neutrino-electron candidates segmented scintillator detector MINERvA, after subtracting backgrounds correcting for efficiency. show how be used reduce total uncertainty NuMI from 9% 6%. Our provides constraint that useful other experiments using beam, technique applicable future beams operating at multi-GeV energies.
