ABSTRACT
The first observation of the $K$-shell photoabsorption edge strongly coupled matter with an ion-ion coupling parameter about 65 generated by intense x-ray radiation-driven shocks is reported. soft radiation laser interaction a ``dog bone'' high-$Z$ hohlraum used to ablate two thick CH layers, which cover KCl sample, create symmetrical inward shocks. While impact at central highly compressed obtained density 3--5 times solid and temperature 2--4 eV. spectra chlorine near are measured crystal spectrometer using short backlighter. redshift $K$ up 11.7 eV broadening 15.2 for maximum compression. A comparison redshifts broadenings dense plasma calculations made, it indicates potential improvements in theoretical description.
