ABSTRACT
Photonic-crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL) holds promise for beam with high efficacy while retain the small divergence angle, being now all rage as source in modern opto-electronic technologies to replace edge emitting lasers and vertical-cavity (VCSELs). Arbitrary shaping deflection of VCSELs ultra-thin flat optics, aka metasurfaces, has recently demonstrated, making possibility realize a compact system many technologies. However, large angle limited output power at single fundamental mode VCSEL limits its application. Here, we report static steering efficiency near 1° by shining PCSEL through metasurface array placed on top. The is contributed from PCSEL. On other hand, offers higher deflection, without considering additional collimating or focusing. This provides highly flexible platform capable manipulate emission design metasurfaces PCSELs. Moreover, proprieties can be further modified specific application metasurfaces. integration collimated source, promising more accurate generation versatile sources demand automotive ultra-compact light detection ranging (LiDAR), depth sensing, optical communication, etc.
