ABSTRACT
The DIRC (acronym for Detection of Internally Reflected Cherenkov (light)) is the ring imaging detector BABAR at PEP-II SLAC. It provides identification pions, kaons and protons momenta up to 4 GeV/c with high efficiency. This needed reconstruct CP-violating B-decay final states provide B-meson flavour tagging time dependent asymmetry measurements. radiators consists long rectangular bars made synthetic fused silica photon a water tank equipped an array 10.752 conventional photomultipliers. At end year 2000 has recorded about 22 million B~B pairs reaching design luminosity L=3/spl middot/10/sup 33//cm/sup 2/s. ability keep beam background level low highest collision rates term reliability components during continuous data taking are requirements accomplish its physics program.
