ABSTRACT
This study evaluated the antimicrobial efficacy of grape seed extract medicament combined with Nd:YAG laser, against Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans biofilms. Root canals infected 4-week-old biofilms were divided into five groups (n = 11): calcium hydroxide, 6.5% GSE, laser (1064 nm, 1.5 w, 15 Hz 100 mj) GSE followed by normal saline (control). Dentin chips collected using Gates-Glidden cultured to obtain colony-forming units. Statistical analysis was performed Kruskal-Wallis Mann-Whitney U test. showed higher antibacterial activity all species investigated compared Ca(OH)2 . However, lowest microbial count obtained a combination (p < 0.001). No significant difference in susceptibility tested pathogens each protocols observed > 0.05). Application following is efficient endodontic biofilms; also, can be considered as an alternative dressing.
