ABSTRACT
ObjectiveThe aim of this research was to explore the transition pathways transition‐aged youth out child and adolescent mental health services in Perth, Western Australia. A secondary identify factors that have some impact upon process.MethodCases discharged from seven community clinics Perth metropolitan area, 1 June 2004 30 2013, at age (16–25 years age), were examined retrospectively. Two hundred forty‐five cases met selection criteria reviewed on Psychiatric Services Online Information System.ResultsFour specific referral acceptance into an adult service identified: not referred, referred with immediate engagement, delayed no engagement accepted. Principal discharge diagnosis, length stay, housing situation all found influence likelihood referral. Only principal diagnosis successful service.ConclusionsThe present study largely consistent findings UK. Findings can assist clinicians make more informed decisions when discussing clients. More broadly, be used by policy makers support formation maintenance protocols.
