ABSTRACT
Abstract Supervision is fundamental to the social work profession. However, increasing concern has been expressed over managerial capture of local authority and use supervision as a way enabling management oversight (or surveillance) practice. Despite importance supervision, we have little evidence about what happens when managers child family workers meet discuss casework less how influences In this study, 34 case discussions were recorded. Detailed descriptions are given in supervision. Overall, operated primarily mechanism for provided limited opportunity reflection, emotional support or critical thinking. With reference organizational context, it suggested that these deficits result from system focuses too much on ‘what when’ things happen not enough ‘how why’.
