ABSTRACT
Abstract Aim The aim of this study was to assess the effect apical lymph node ( APN ) metastasis in predicting prognosis curatively treated node‐positive rectal cancer. We also investigated relationship between and total number metastatic nodes. Method A retrospective performed 510 patients with Clinicopathological variables, including status, were assessed univariate multivariate analyses. prognostic significance status patient outcomes American Joint Committee on Cancer AJCC N stage analysed. Results At a median follow up 47 months, 5‐year local recurrence LR rate, disease‐free survival DFS rate overall OS 18.3%, 55.5% 58.8%, respectively. 69.6% for no s (−)) 40.8% (+)). undetermined those (−) (+). Subgroup analysis gave 48.7% Stage N1 (+) 58.8% N2 P = 0.0004). Conclusion is an important factor cancer, which provides additional survival‐related classification irrespective stage. As usually outside radiation field, era multidisciplinary treatment its assessment should be incorporated into evaluation
