Frequency of delirium and its associated factors among COVID‐19 inpatients in Iran

ABSTRACT
Delirium has been presented as the leading cause of sudden change in mental state patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Given that delayed diagnosis such a dysfunction is often associated excess mortality, it seems essential to devote vastly more attention this significant clinical characteristic.This cross-sectional study was performed on 309 [viz. 259 cases hospitalized general wards and 50 individuals admitted intensive care unit (ICU)]. For purpose, Demographic-Clinical Information Questionnaire, Confusion Assessment Method (CAM), for ICU (CAM-ICU), Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) face-to-face interviews were completed by trained senior psychiatry resident. The data analysis further done SPSS Statistics V22.0 software package.Out due COVID-19, 41 (15.8%) 11 (22%) diagnosed delirium, respectively. As well, relationship observed between incidence rate delirium age (p < 0.001), level education hypertension (HTN) = 0.029), history stroke 0.025), ischemic heart (IHD) 0.007), psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment use hypnotic antipsychotic medications 0.001) substance abuse 0.023). Among 52 only 20 had received consultation consultation-liaison service possibility delirium.In view high frequency among COVID-19 inpatients, their screening important should be priority settings.
