A retrospective analysis of the relationship between facial injury and mild traumatic brain injury

ABSTRACT
The association between facial injury characteristics and mild traumatic brain (mTBI) is unclear. aim of this study was to determine the mTBI.A retrospective review utilizing patients' medical records at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, performed. Records subjects with a history trauma from 1 April 2012 31 December were selected. Various levels surgical speciality reviewed ascertain diagnoses injuries total 348 diagnosis included. prevalence mTBI among these patients 41.4% (95% CI 36.2-46.6). majority in age group 18-25 years old. Patients or without lacerations that located on lower face had significant mTBI, P=.001, compared other types soft tissue injury. In addition, statistically observed fractures occurring middle P=.018. Pearson chi-square test also showed severity P=.018.Mild should be suspected particularly those lacerations, midface fractures, moderate severe presence multiple injuries.
