ABSTRACT
Knowledge of imaging anatomy, surgical anatomy and disorders affecting the sphenopalatine sinus are currently lacking. To describe computed tomographic (CT) diagnosis, treatment outcome in clinical cases with disease.Cadaver observational study retrospective case series. The sinuses 10 normal cadaver heads were examined digital radiography, CT sinoscopic examination prior to anatomical sectioning. Sphenopalatine was described compared between specimens across modalities. Medical records (January 2004-2014) diagnosed disease reviewed. The variable. The borders not identifiable on plain radiographs, whereas provided useful information. palatine portion consistently accessible sinoscopically sphenoidal 6/10 heads. Fourteen identified, presenting one or more signs exophthalmos, blindness, unilateral epistaxis nasal discharge. Diagnoses included neoplasia (7), progressive ethmoidal haematoma (4), cyst (2) empyema (1). Computed tomography diagnostic information but could differentiate nature soft tissue masses. Standing access possible for evaluation, biopsy resection abnormal tissues. Surgical limited. Eight horses alive at 1 year after a worse associated evidence bone loss diagnosis neoplasia.Sphenopalatine should be considered rare cause described. variation is vital interpreting images. A combination sinoscopy provides most comprehensive approach disease.
