Water‐Based Gelcasting of Surface‐Coated Silicon Nitride Powder

ABSTRACT
A layer of Y 2 O 3 –Al , used as a sintering aid, was coated onto the surface Si N 4 particles by precipitation inorganic salts from water‐based solution containing Al(NO ) Y(NO and urea. The electrokinetic colloidal characteristics powder were changed significantly coating layer. As result, dispersion ‐coated greater than that original powder. Furthermore, prevented hydrogen‐gas‐discharging problem occurred during gelcasting because reaction between uncoated basic aqueous in suspension. Surface coating, well process, improved microstructure, room‐temperature bending strength, Weibull modulus resulting ceramic bodies.
