ABSTRACT
Aim. The aim of this study was to investigate the essence experience mothers during decision‐making process when facing their less than three‐year‐old child undergoing heart surgery due congenital disease (CHD). Methods. In phenomenological in Taiwan nine were interviewed homes. They invited share family interactions and relationships while a decision about child's surgery. interviews recorded transcribed for further analysis according Colaizzi's methodology. Results. maternal themes included (i) understanding step by step, (ii) role pressure, (iii) constructing care‐taking ability, (iv) endeavouring maintain functioning preparing (v) deliberate consideration make correct decision. Conclusions. When parents face having CHD plan surgery, whole is living through stressful process. According results study, it obvious that caregivers families psychological distress, reorganization remodelling functioning. Relevance clinical practice. provide evidence‐based essential knowledge will assist management such processes help prepare have confidence
