ABSTRACT
Canine leishmaniasis (CanL), caused by Leishmania infantum, is widely distributed in many Mediterranean countries and considered endemic southern central Italy with prevalence reaching up to 48.4%. Determination of the incidence would be useful as a measure risk infection, then evaluate usefulness control measures estimate whether new focus autochthonous or imported. This study was performed on two sites Apulia region Italy, namely A B. total 262 dogs were included evaluation incidence, 94 farm from site 168 (92 76 kennel dogs) The infection determined using different approaches: means density rate (IDR); B yearly seroconversion rate. In A, IDR calculated at 4.25% dog-years; 9.52% (6.5% 13.1% dogs, respectively). strength weakness approaches (i.e. annual monitoring monthly interval monitoring) for calculating CanL an area have been discussed.
