ABSTRACT
Abstract Background and Aim: Primary sclerosing cholangitis is frequently complicated by inflammatory bowel disease. Although many colitis models have been reported, little information has obtained about cholangitis. The aim of the present study was to determine whether hepatobiliary disorders occur in mice experimental colitis, clarify underlying mechanisms. Methods: CD‐1 were fed standard chow with or without dextran sulfate sodium drinking water, followed histological examination liver colon. Mononuclear cells isolated from these organs, cytokine production assessed. CD4/CD8 ratio population natural killer T (NKT) analyzed flow cytometry. Results: Inflammatory cell infiltration focal necrosis found 33% treated mice. In mice, increased liver, whereas no such change Also an increase interferon‐γ a decrease interleukin‐4 observed. NKT showed transient changes Conclusions: Hepatobiliary Immunological findings indicate T‐helper‐1‐dominant mechanism, may play pathogenic role this model. This model help elucidate relationship between hepatic colonic inflammations. © 2004 Blackwell Publishing Asia Pty Ltd
