ABSTRACT
Abstract Background: Adult intussusception is a rare clinical entity. The presentations and optimal management of adult in Asians have seldom been reported. purpose this study was to determine the causes Taiwan. Methods: A retrospective review performed at four medical centers Taiwan identified 46 patients, least 18 years old, with diagnosis intestinal from January 1992 December 2005. Data related presentations, diagnosis, treatment, pathology were analyzed. Results: There 28 men women mean age 58 (range 19–83) years. Twenty‐five patients diagnosed enteric 21 colonic intussusception. Disease 35 (76.1%) caused by benign lead point. most common symptom abdominal pain, which seen all patients. presented acute symptoms that they experienced over period less than 3 days. preoperative 89.1% because wide use computed tomography (CT). sensitive diagnostic modality CT (88.6%). For 76% 28.6% underwent operative reduction. At time writing, 71.7% still alive. Only two died postoperative complications. Conclusions: Most our series men, intussusceptions origin. scan. Operative reduction recommended for but not intussusceptions. prognosis after surgery good except malignant
