Deep sedation with intravenous infusion of combined propofol and ketamine during dressing changes and whirlpool bath in patients with severe epidermolysis bullosa

ABSTRACT
Summary Continuous i.v. infusion of propofol, or propofol plus ketamine for deep sedation and analgesia was carried out in two patients with severe epidermolysis bullosa (EB) during extensive dressing changes whirlpool baths. Intermittent small doses narcotics were given as supplement pain relief needed. Both had typical features EB, including extremity contractures, digit deformity, difficult airways, blisters broken skin denuded areas wound infections. SpO 2 roughly estimated by holding the probe around earlobe periodically no other monitors could be applied because conditions settings procedures. Retrospective anesthesia record review showed that combined infusions provided satisfactory significantly reduced narcotic requirements compared alone. There noticeable side effects when added. Ketamine appears to a good addition provide there are great concerns respiration depression, apnea, management potential unstable hemodynamics baths EB patients.
