ABSTRACT
Abstract: This article provides an analysis of gradient and curvature constraints on path form length, with particular reference to road, rail, pipeline route selection. Initially, we examine the case a single (global) constraint planar surface, or without boundaries obstacles. leads consideration surface representation using rectangular lattices procedures for determining shortest gradient-constrained paths across such surfaces. Gradient-constrained distance transforms are introduced as new procedure enable optimal be computed, examples provided range landform profiles gradients. Horizontal vertical then analyzed incorporated into final solution at subsequent stages optimization process. Such may used preanalyzed input detailed cost engineering models speed up, where possible improve, quality cost-effectiveness
