ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Objective To introduce a simple, well‐standardised vaginal ultrasound technique and to compare the position mobility of bladder neck in continent stress incontinent women using this technique. Design A single‐centre prospective case‐control study. Setting Ikazia Hospital, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Subjects One hundred sixty women; randomly chosen referred our outpatient department who volunteered for study develop standardised technique, fifty stress‐incontinent controls comparison Main outcome measures Standardisation with regard volume, horizontal axis Valsalva force. at rest, during straining squeezing. Results probe we use does not alter mobility. volume 250 ml was used rather than maximum capacity. Foley catheter introduced into bladder, balloon half‐filled soapy water half air gives an easily recognisable fluid level, which is parallel patient. force 30 cm H 2 O can exclude differences due spontaneous uncontrolled abdominal Measurements by two independently working investigators showed good conformity. significantly lower more posterior At same time there descent less elevation However, considerable overlap between groups all parameters. Conclusions This feasible, acceptable reproducible female different as compared controls. great still limits clinical relevance.
