ABSTRACT
Abstract The retardation effects of two polymer powders, styrene butadiene rubber and ethylene‐vinyl acetate, on cement hydration the mechanisms in terms degree microstructure characteristics were investigated by combination backscattered electron image analysis, scanning microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometer, X‐ray diffraction. Results show that can be significantly retarded both polymers with reductions degrees products thickness. Polymers retard agglomerating particles surfaces grains, forming films different thickness bonding calcium ions pore solutions. Consequentially, formation C‐S‐H CH is depressed Ca/Si ratios product layer are raised. enhanced increase content. This work helps understand effect depth, which enables rational development polymer‐modified cement‐based materials for further applications.
