High serum triglyceride levels in the early first trimester of pregnancy are associated with gestational diabetes mellitus: A prospective cohort study

ABSTRACT
Pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have been reported to higher serum triglyceride (TG) levels during the entire period. However, whether TGs contribute incidence of GDM remains unclear. This study aimed evaluate TG level early first trimester is associated GDM.A prospective single-center cohort was carried out among pregnant (n = 2,949) who received regular antenatal care in Fu Xing Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. diagnosed between 24 and 28 weeks. Serum were measured weeks 6-8 (TG0) 16-18 (TG1). elevation difference TG1 TG0.In total, 581 developed GDM. A 13.1, 18.5 28.8% observed low, referent high TG0 levels, respectively. Among prepregnancy body mass index <24 kg/m2 ≥24 , those had 2.4- 2.3-fold increased odds developing GDM, respectively, compared low levels. positive dose-response relationship continuous elevation, GDM; a association intermediate levels.High trimester, from second are development, which persists even after adjusting for confounders.
