Gene expression patterns in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) with severe nephrocalcinosis

Abstract Nephrocalcinosis is a common disorder in farmed Atlantic salmon, but the consequences for fish physiology are not well understood. We performed transcriptome study kidneys of salmon ( Salmo salar ) smolts without and with severe chronic nephrocalcinosis (NC). The revealed that numerous genes differentially expressed NC compared healthy salmon. most evident changes gene expression patterns group were massive downregulation metabolism energy production, upregulation signalling pathways important tissue repair function maintenance inflammatory responses. Overall, extensive damage regulation responses affect highly likely to have dramatic on survival.
