ABSTRACT
Overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) has high risk of recurrence and is associated with poor survival. The role nutrition therapy well documented in cirrhosis, but its efficacy preventing the OHE not been studied. In double blind RCT, we randomly assigned 150 patients liver history recent past to receive (group I) or no II) followed up for 6 months. primary end points were occurrence breakthrough episodes time episode OHE. Secondary related hospitalizations hospitalization involving Other parameters included anthropometry, changes serum cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α), endotoxin myostatin. There was significant reduction group I [10 vs 36, hazard ratio 0.20; P < 0.001], OHE-related [8 24, 0.27; 0.001)]. Times longer I. At months, inflammatory anthropometry showed improvement compared worsening albumin, anthropometric parameters, IL-10 TNF-α II. ascites (50 66, = 0.01), gastrointestinal bleed (2 11, 0.007), jaundice (16 41, 0.001) lower I.Treatment prevented decreased as therapy.
