ABSTRACT
Abstract Inflorescence architecture is a major determinant of spikelet numbers per panicle, key component grain yield in rice. In this study, Short Panicle 3 ( SP3 ) was identified from short panicle sp3 mutant which T‐DNA inserted the promoter , resulting knockdown mutation. encodes DNA binding with one finger (Dof) transcriptional activator. Quantitative real time (qRT)‐PCR and RNA situ hybridization assays confirmed that preferentially expressed young rice inflorescence, specifically branch primordial regions. acts as negative regulator inflorescence meristem abortion by upregulating APO2/RFL . both up‐ downregulates expression genes involved cytokinin biosynthesis catabolism, respectively. Consequently, concentrations are decreased panicles, thereby leading to small panicles having fewer branches spikelets. Our findings support model regulates modulating homeostasis. Potential applications breeding, through gene‐editing assessed.
