ABSTRACT
To investigate the association between body mass and hypotension during general anaesthesia in dogs undergoing surgical diagnostic procedures within a referral hospital.Retrospective evaluation of anaesthetic records 1789 was performed. Data on signalment, protocol physiological variables, including mean arterial pressure, were collected. A multivariable generalised linear model used to identify associations explanatory mass, hypotension. In population studied, increasing (per 10 kg) significantly associated with decreasing odds (odds ratio 0.68; 95% confidence interval: 0.60 0.77). Additional variables decreased pre-anaesthetic medication alpha-2 agonists 0.63; interval 0.48 0.82) increased temperature 1°C) 0.77; 0.67 0.88). Brachycephaly 1.72; 1.25 2.38), ASA physical status classification >3 2.03; 1.16 3.56), procedure (versus diagnostic) 1.57; 1.10 2.23) bradycardia 1.37; 1.05 1.80) independently hypotension.Dogs lower brachycephalic breeds may be at higher risk or alternatively represent subpopulations which accurate blood pressure measurement presents greater challenge. Monitoring accurately these groups requires particular attention provisions for treating should readily accessible.
